Projects: Donations in Kind

During the November 2006, April 2007 and September 2007 visits, our contributions included delivery of PCs donated from Seaview School; $3,000 from Don & Jill toward cost of outbound containers; unpacking contents/sorting of donated backpacks; repair and packing of walkers and walking frames; sorting / packing of hospital and operating bed parts; sorting/cleaning/packing toilet chairs.

**NEWS UPDATE - THE RCM CONTAINER HAS NOW ARRIVED!!!!**

Members, partners and regular readers of the website will be pleased to learn that our DIK container finally arrived at its destination on 24 November 2008. The project is (finally) complete and the donated goods are now in the hands of the Markham Valley High School and students!

This project was a dream that began way back in October 2007 when the Markham Valley High School, way up in the highlands of PNG, made a request via Margaret Dull. The school and its students are very underprivileged and requested that we support them with goods they could use to improve their learning potential which in turn would lead to improved life prospects.

We received a wish list from the school which we commenced to fulfil their wishes – a copy of the consignment note which details the content of the container can be viewed below

The Rotary Club of Lae in PNG to partner my Rotary Club in the project. There role was to take responsibility for the container when it arrived in PNG; transport it to the school (3 hours drive on unmade roads); unload and supervise distribution.

The container left Port Adelaide for Port of Lae on 19 July. Little did we know that the route to PNG is via Melbourne, Malaysia and the Philippines! Anyway, it finally arrived early September. It then took from then to early November to clear Customs, quarantine and seemingly every other hurdle that the authorities in PNG could build!

In closing, on behalf of Margaret Dull and me (Darrell), sincere thanks from the bottom of our hearts to all those who helped in any way to make this DREAM REAL!
